PlanAm Group Launches Pioneer Pilot Project to Integrate Oral and Overall Health

PlanAm Group, through its administrator Plan Administrators of North America (PANA), is partnering with   Henry Schein, Inc. (Nasdaq: HSIC), a global leader in health care solutions, to pioneer a pilot project aimed at advancing the integration of oral health and overall health services. This initiative seeks to leverage diagnostic data from dental claims to demonstrate the proven correlations between oral health and specific medical conditions, ultimately measuring the positive impact of oral care on patient wellness.

To support this groundbreaking effort, PANA and its network partners are initiating a targeted recruitment drive for dentists. Participating providers will incorporate standardized diagnostic terminology into submitted dental claims where evidence-based data highlights links between oral conditions—such as periodontal disease—and medical issues like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or other chronic ailments. The collected information will be analyzed to quantify how enhanced oral health interventions can improve medical outcomes and promote general well-being.

The project aligns with growing recognition in the health care industry of the oral-systemic health connection, supported by extensive research showing that proactive oral care can reduce risks and costs associated with systemic diseases.
